‘Freaky Deaky’, starring William H. Macy, approved for Michigan Film Incentives

The Michigan Film Office announced yesterday that “Freaky Deaky”, based on the 1988 novel but Elmore Leonard, had been approved for the state’s film incentives.

The movie, which will star William H. Macy, was approved for $2.8 million in incentives on an expected $6.9 million in spending in Michigan. That brings the total of money approved in 2011 to $15.8 million for 10 projects, which means there is only $9 million left for 31 pending applications.

“Freaky Deaky” is set in Detroit, and is about a cop, a few old hippies, a former Black Panther and other characters thrown together in an unusual way.

The film’s director Charlie Matthau said of the decision, “I am thrilled that the Michigan Film Office, and its director Carrie Jones, has chosen Elmore’s ‘Freaky Deaky’ for their incentive program.”

Filming is expected to take place in and around Detroit later this year.
