Fan photos of the mysterious ‘Men In Black 3’ set in Babylon, NY

One of our readers, Nick, stopped by the Men In Black 3 set in Long Island yesterday, where he saw Will Smith and Josh Brolin film a couple scenes for the upcoming movie in front of a mysterious tunnel built into the Dunes. The LI shoot was originally scheduled to begin on Monday but was pushed back until Wednesday due to weather.

Check out what Nick had to say about the shoot below:

Stopped by the filming of Men in Black III at Robert Moses Field 4 today on Long Island.

One of the crew members keeping the crowd back said they would be filming there for the next seven days.

There are yellow “To Set” & “Crew Parking” signs that say “M3” on them along Robert Moses State Parkway leading to Field 4 and Field 5. (Field 5 is where the crew parking was, if i remember correctly.)

Will Smith and Josh Brolin were on set–they covered the lifeguard buildings in the background completely in blue. I’m assuming they did this to cut them out of the shots. Since Brolin is playing the younger version of Tommy Lee Jones’ character, and since an old truck was on set, I’m guessing it’s one of the scenes that takes place in the ’60s or ’70s. They built a dune and covered it with plants, and made what looks like a metal doorway/tunnel facade that goes under the dune. I saw another door inside the “tunnel” when the outside door was open, but I don’t think it goes back any further than that. Not sure what the nets and crane rigs seen in the pics were for, however.

The scene they were shooting involved Brolin handing a duffel bag to a military police officer in some kind of meeting or standoff, with Smith standing next to Brolin before Brolin steps forward. They did a few takes of that scene, and other scenes as well I believe. There were about 10 actors dressed as military police for filming, too.

There were also 2 or 3 different types of planes flying over the ocean (less than 100 feet across from the set/dunes) at various times, including a group of 2-3 planes doing stunts. While this is a semi-regular occurrence for the beaches at Robert Moses and I did not see any cameras rolling, it did seem like a little more air activity than usual, so there’s a small chance that that might have been for the filming as well.

Smith waved to the people watching the filming as he left the set for break, then came back and came down to all of us. He took photos quickly, and New York Post and Newsday photographers were also there.

  1. At MIB3 at Robert Moses state park- Josh Brolin is here and we’re waiting to see if Will Smith is coming from his huge trailer. They are shooting on the beach

  2. I was down there just a couple of hours ago as they were wrapping shooting for the day, and holiday weekend. Spoke to one of the guys on the set, said the beach set was going to substitute for Cape Canaveral, most likely in the 60’s. They were shooting a scene where one of the Men in Black was apparently escaping a NASA spaceship in an emergency type of basket on a steel line. No spaceships mind you, I’m sure that will be added in post production. Well, I was told they’ll be back at Field 4 at Robert Moses State Park on Tuesday.

    • Wow, lucky they revealed that much! It makes sense though, I took a video of them doing the stunt where it came down the wire and Brolin jumps out and runs with the military officer. I also heard that they would definitely be there this coming Tuesday. I’ll be there by 10:45, 11AM next Tuesday with more updates. And I’m sending in my pics now! Brolin was really nice, when he came over, my friend took a picture with my camera but it was still on video mode. My friend was like, “whoops, it’s on video” and Brolin said, “Oh, don’t worry just play the video for 5 or 10 minutes!” He was pretty funny. Smith came from his trailer to his Escalade and merely waved from behind his car, he didn’t even come over. I can understand somewhat though, the guy just wants to get home for the weekend, but show some love for the fans!

  3. I was there this evening also. Saw them film the scenes with the emergency basket. Josh Brolin was also on set. They finished up a little after 7pm.

    • Hey, I tried sending them last night, but the files were too big, so I just uploaded them to photobucket. I’ll shoot you an email with the link, and I’ll try emailing the videos. All photos are HD and the videos are 720p

  4. Just sent! Also, as a reminder, I’ll be there Tuesday around 11AM for at least 3 hours, so I’ll have plenty more to send! And hopefully I’ll be able to meet Smith!

  5. Hey Dan!

Thanks I did get two emails but couldn’t open them- must be what you tried to send last night maybe? Let me know when you send the link to PB, don’t see it yet, thanks again!
