Travel Inspiration: Alec Baldwin tweets his way through Central New York

Alec Baldwin just wrapped filming his part in Woody Allen’s The Bop Decameron in Rome, Itlay, but before he headed to Rome he spent a week with his peeps in Upstate New York.

Alec’s mother lives near Syracuse, so it’s not that unusual to have a Baldwin brother sighting around town, and this time Alec made it even easier to track him down as he tweeted his way through Central New York.

As locals, it was fun to watch Alec talk about some of our favorite places- like Wegmans and the Skaneateles Bakery- and we even got a shout out for the Orange!

Here’s a look at a few of Alec’s tweets (and explanations about what he’s talking about for non-New Yorkers):

@SteveMartinToGo …on my way to Syracuse, NY. They have Howe Caverns nearby. And the Coffee Cave.

Howe Caverns, which is actually located closer to Albany than Syracuse, is an attraction that brings people 156 feet below the Earth’s surface into a six million year old underground cavern. They’ve also opened a new zip line park above ground too. You can find more information at HoweCaverns.com.

The Coffee Cave is exactly what it sounds like, a specialty coffee and tea shop located at 161 Marshall St in Syracuse.

@ToneLoOnTheGo: @AlecBaldwin can I get a shout out for the Orange?” Holla to the Orange up in the Cuse!!

The Orange of course refers to the Syracuse University Orangemen!

Skanny, baby. But I’m avoiding Breakfast Pizza at Tops and the Skaneateles Bakery.

Skaneateles, NY is located in the Finger Lakes, on Skaneateles Lake. It’s no surprise Alec likes to spend time here when he’s in ‘Cuse, it’s definitely one of the nicest places in Upstate NY. There are several shops and restaurants on the main drag, along with a small park area, beach, and pier. It’s one of our favorite places too! (Alec took the above photo with the caption “Summer in Skanny”).

The bakery is located at 19 Jordan St, while Tops is a chain of local grocery stores, you can find more information about them here.

Alec also ate at the Bluewater Grill in Skaneateles, after which he tweeted,”Julia is the greatest waitress in Central New York!” We agree, the service there is great and the food is good, nice view too!

Goin’ to Wegman’s for my blueberries! Cuse!

We have few things in Central New York that those living in other areas of the country should be jealous about, but one of them is definitely Wegmans. Wegmans is a chain of grocery stores, but not just any grocery stores. They have delish prepared meals that you can buy by the pound, awesome baked goods, and a produce section that makes Whole Foods produce look like a fruit basket in a gas station. As Alec said in a later tweet,  “it’s grocery heaven.”

Morro’s in Auburn, NY. Gotta love Cayuga County!!

Moro’s Table is known for their creative menu and “big city” feel. They serve sushi, salads, mussels, and dinner entrees that be prepared as appetizers or main courses. Prices are a little high for Central New York but most would agree it’s worth it.

Wegman’s, Brooklyn Pickle, Stella’s Diner, Ichiban, Joey’s on Carrier Circle, Nestico’s Too, Gem Diner, Pete’s Polar Parlor. CUUUUSE!!

Before leaving Central New York, Alec gave a shout out to a few of his other favorite places in the area like Brooklyn Pickle (which serves gigantic, yummy sandwiches), Stella’s Diner (a 50’s style diner- we know a lot of people who are huge fans of this place), Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse (another restaurant popular with locals, especially on birthdays!), Joey’s (awesome pizza and Italian food), Nesticos Too (another diner serving breakfast, lunch and dinner), Gem Diner (a local institution), and Peter’s Polar Parlor (yum!).

As you can tell from Alec’s tweets, we may not have a lot going for us in terms of economic growth, but one thing’s for sure, we do know a little something about good food in CNY!
