‘Modern Family’ and ‘Mad Men’ make L.A. a big winner at the Emmys

As the Comedy awards were being announced during tonight’s Emmys, host Jane Lynch joked that it was really the Modern Family awards after the show nearly sweeped all of its categories and eventually took the prize for Best Comedy Series.

Though there was no one drama that took over the dramatic categories, the award for Best Drama Series went to Mad Men, which was surprising to many who thought the night’s top award would go to Boardwalk Empire, the category’s front-runner.

Both Mad Men and Modern Family are filmed in and around Los Angeles with Modern Family calling 20th Century Studios home and Mad Men using L.A. Center Studios as its home base.  Interestingly, Mad Men’s pilot was shot at Silvercup Studios in New York City , but the show was moved to L.A. after it was picked up by AMC for a full season.

According to I Am Not A Stalker, the Dunphy house, which is still often featured in Modern Family, is located just around the corner from the studio at 10336 Dunleer Drive in the Cheviot Hills area of Los Angeles.
