James Van Der Beek & Mindy Kaling will take on ‘The Breakfast Club’ in L.A. this week

Film Independent and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art have just launched the Film Independent at LACMA Film Series, which will mix classic and contemporary films, conversations with artists, and special guest-curated programs.

But, it’s Thursday night’s live reading of The Breakfast Club, directed by Jason Reitman, that really has people talking. A carefully selected cast, including James Van Der Beek, Mindy Kaling and Patton Oswalt, will read the movie’s entire script, on the fly, in front of a live audience at LACMA.

Kaling will play “the kook” Allison, Van Der Beek will play Andy “the jock” and Oswalt will play “the brain.” J.K. Simmons will also appear as Carl the janitor.

Not surprisingly, The Breakfast Club reading is already sold out, but there will be a stand-by line forming at 6 p.m. at the Hammer Pavilion at LACMA. For more information, visit LACMA.org.
