After months of anticipation, the title and cast of the next James Bond movie have finally been revealed.
Yesterday, producers announced that filming has begun on Skyfall, the 23rd film in the Bond series.
Daniel Craig, who will be playing Bond for the third time, will be joined Javier Bardem as Bond’s nemesis, while Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw will play as-yet-undisclosed roles in the new film. Judi Dench will also be back as M while Naomie Harris will play a field agent named Eve and French performer Berenice Marlohe will play “a glamorous, enigmatic character” named Severine.
“There’s lots of surprises, I think this has all the elements of a classic Bond movie, including — to quell any rumors — a lot of action,” director Sam Mendes said at the press conference. “The action needs to coexist with the drama, and that’s the balance we’ve got to strike,” he added.
The only details revealed about the plot were “Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her” and MI6 comes under attack.
Filming will take place in the Whitehall district of London, at Pinewood Studios, and on location in Istanbul, Shanghai and in the Scottish wilderness.
Skyfall is due to be released on Oct 26, 2012 in Britain and Nov. 9 in the United States, 50 years after the release of the first 007 film, Dr. No.
