New James Bond film abandons plans to film at Scotland Castle

Last month, Skyfall director Sam Mendes and several location scouts put plans in motion to film at the Duntrune Castle, near Lochgilphead in Argyll, Scotland, early next year.

The shoot was expected to take place over ten days in February with crews arriving as early as next month to begin prep work, but according to the castle’s owner, Robin Malcolm, the producers’ have decided not to shoot at the castle after all.

Malcolm explains, “We were as surprised as anyone when they said ‘No it’s all off’. I particularly feel sorry for hoteliers and tradesmen in the area who were looking forward to a prosperous New Year. For myself I am very sorry I won’t see Judi Dench.”

Duntrune Castle overlooks Loch Crinan in Argyll and was well-known as a seat of the Campbell clan. Today, several cottages on the property are rented out to vacationers throughout the year.

Skyfall, the 23rd film in the James Bond franchise starring Daniel Craig, is still expected to shoot in Scotland next year, but no details about a new venue have been revealed.
