‘Take Shelter’ and ‘The Artist’ lead Spirit Award nominations, Find out how you can attend the ceremony

Last week the Spirit Award nominees were announced with Take Shelter and The Artist receiving 5 nods each.

Both films were nominated for Best Picture, along with 50/50, Drive, Beginners and The Descendants.

Bet actor nominations went to Jean Dujardin (The Artist), Michael Shannon (Take Shelter), Ryan Gosling (Drive), Demian Bichir (A Better Life) and Woody Harrelson (Rampart).

The lead-actress field includes Michelle Williams (My Week with Marilyn), Lauren Ambrose (Think of Me), Rachael Harris (Natural Selection), Adepero Oduye (Pariah), and Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene).

Margin Call will  also receive the Robert Altman Award, which is given to one film for director, casting director and ensemble cast.

The Spirit Awards, presented by Film Independent, recognize the best in independent film. The annual awards ceremony will take place in an afternoon ceremony on the beach in Santa Monica, CA on Feb. 25, 2012.

The show will air later that night on IFC but if you have an extra $5000 you can score a seat at one of the show’s tables. The Spirit Awards is also the annual fundraiser for Film Independen. Spirit and Arts level donors can receive tickets to the ceremony as a member benefit. The Spirit level, which is the cheapest option, is a $5,000 annual gift that provides the donor with two complimentary tickets to the Spirit Awards, among other perks.
