Back in September, Will Ferrell shot a commercial for Old Milwaukee (if you’re our age you will remember it as the beer of choice from your college days) in Davenport, Iowa which is currently airing on local TV in the Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois.
So why would Will Ferrell shoot a beer commercial that is only being shown in one market? Because he wanted too. According to Daren Metropoulos, co-owner of Pabst Brewing Co. who makes Old Milwaukee, Ferrell offered to do the commercial, for free.
“Will Ferrell approached Old Milwaukee about creating ads because he’s a big fan of the brand,” Metropoulos said. “We gave him the freedom to pursue his creative vision and produce these spots with a local vibe.”
Though Ferrell did the ads pro-bono, they’ve created a lot of buzz for not just Old Mil, but also for Ferrell and his website Funny Or Die. Though the ads aren’t posted on Funny or Die (yet) they are quickly becoming YouTube hits.
Last week a new group of Ferrell ads, that were filmed at the Cracker Barrel in Terre Haute, Indiana, began airing on channels in that local market too. So, is it possible Will Ferrell will be turning up in other regions around the country to shoot more of these unusual ads? Maybe. Especially if the ads continue to create buzz for Old Mil, and Will.
But, if he does shoot more of the ads it might not be for a while since he’s currently busy filming Dog Fight in New Orleans. Or, who knows, maybe we’ll see a few NOLA-centric ads popping soon!
