Yesterday, American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy made headlines when he announced he was shaking things up for the second season of the hit FX series.
After Wednesday night’s season one finale, Murphy announced that there would be a new family and a new house in the horror-thriller’s second season.
“Every season of the show will be a different haunting,” Murphy said. “What you saw in the finale was the end of the Harmon house and the second season of the show will be a brand new home or building to haunt. Just like this year, every season of the show will have a beginning, middle and an end.”
Though Murphy hasn’t said who the new family will be or where they will live, he has confirmed the next season will not be set in California where the “murder house” was located.
“The season we’re planning now is very different from the California house approach,” he said.
Murphy also confirmed that the murder house set at Paramount studios was torn down last week, saying it was “a weird but satisfying moment” to see the house be destroyed. The set house was based on a real home in L.A., where they also shot a few exteriors scenes throughout season one.
We may hear an announcement as early as February about the setting of the new season, but for now we can speculate about where it could take place.
The second season won’t take place in California, but we have to assume the show will still be filmed on a back lot in Los Angeles, which means it can be set anywhere.
So what would be the best setting for a haunted house? New England is always a great choice for a scary story, especially in fall. An isolated hospital or hotel, a la The Shining would be a perfect choice, or if they wanted to think outside the box, they could go with a tropical locale.

Upstate ny has beaaaitiful old houses!! One i know of even had a murder in it in the turn of the centry 😉 killed his wife , her sister, mother then hung himself in the cupala (sp?). :0
really? where is that? I live in Upstate NY too!
Igor’s Alley in Long Beach!!!!! It’s a pitch black alley in long beach(there is a house involved in this story!) that has been known to be haunted due to a man that killed his family I believe by hanging them on meat hooks that, now down of course, used to face what is now the alley. It is believed by residents to be super haunted. I drove down this before and its EXTREMELY CREEPY feeling! I hear things about black rose pedals in a pool in this alley. I wish I knew where the whole story was!!
good suggestion! hope Ryan Murphy is reading 😉
I think they should do a mental hospital. That would be so cool!
