TCA Wrap Up: 24 movie, Grey’s Anatomy is returning, Ed Westwick talks Leighton Meester, & more

Earlier this month, the TV network’s addressed journalists at the Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, CA as part of the 2012 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour.

Here are a few of the stories that emerged from the TCA Press Tour and caught our eye:

ABC Family has to air the 700 Club, but doesn’t necessarily want to. [THR]

FX didn’t pick up the pilot Powers, which was shot in Chicago last year, but is considering doing extensive re-shoots and giving it another try. [SplashPage]

The 24 movie could start filming this spring and a Party Down movie is definitely happening. [MovieHole]

Ed Westwick talked about his feelings for Leighton Meester after the Bad Ass Boys of The CW Panel. [E!]

There’s still no air date for ABC Family’s filmed-in-Pittsburgh cable movie musical Elixir. [Post Gazette]

Judd Apatow, who is producing the new HBO series Girls, said he was “wounded” by his past television experiences. [THR]

Though Nicole Kidman plays writer Martha Gellhorn in a new HBO movie, she wouldn’t someone playing her in a movie about her own life. [AccessHollywood]

CBS’ 2 Broke Girls panel got heated. [HitFlix]

Showtime’s president of entertainment, David Nevins, talked about the network’s future with shows like House of Lies and Laughing Stock. [L.A. Times]

James Van Der Beek talked about playing himself in Apartment 23. [THR]

ABC announced Grey’s Anatomy will continue, even if stars Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey and Sandra Oh (whose contracts expire after this season) leave the series. [TV Guide]

Terra Nova’s future is still up in the air, Allen Gregory is officially dead. [The Wrap]

Fox is also planning a Saturday late-night animated comedy block to compete with SNL. [The Wrap]

Smash debuts Monday, Feb. 6, on NBC but, the first episode is streaming now on all of NBC’s digital download partners, including iTunes, Amazon, XBox, Playstation, and Vudu. [The Wrap]

And, even though the networks usually make their big announcements during the TCA Press Tour, there’s been some big TV news in the week since too:

Ben Stiller has signed on for the HBO comedy All Talk. [The Wrap]

NBC has picked up a Roseanne Barr pilot. [The Wrap]

Cougar Town will return on Feb. 14. [Zap2It]

ABC picked up 666 Park Ave, a drama pilot from writer David Wilcox (Fringe). [Deadline]

The Finder has cast George Stults as Geoff’s TV Brother. [TVLine]

Anne Heche will headline NBC’s Save Me. [TVLine]
