‘Evil Dead’ gears up to begin filming in New Zealand, Jane Levy joins the cast

Production on the remake of the horror classic Evil Dead is ramping up with filming scheduled to begin next month in New Zealand.

Casting is almost complete with the addition of Jane Levy, who joins Shiloh Fernandez, as the movie’s leads.

Levy will play Mia, a drug addict who agrees to a three-day detox at the family cabin where a group of filmmakers unleash evil spirits. Fernandez will play Mia’s estranged brother David.

“I’m so excited,” Levy, who stars in ABC’s Subugatory, recently said. “I’m a big fan of the original. To me it’s the scariest movie, ever. But this one is really different. They’ve changed it a lot, but it’s still a pretty gory movie. My mom probably can’t see it.”

The film’s writer/director Fede Alvarez also recently tweeted the first set photo from the film (above), calling it “the path to hell”.

Stay tuned fro more updates from the New Zealand set of Evil Dead.

The film is slated to hit theaters on April 12, 2013.
