On Wednesday, Ron Howard announced filming was officially underway for his new movie, Rush, via Twitter.
“I start experiencing all the sunrises when principle photography begins. Nice one for Rush’s 1st day”
Rush was already been spotted filming at the Nurburgring Race Track in Germany back in September, and again in January, but principal photography didn’t begin until the week. The Formula One racing drama centers on the 1970s rivalry between Austrian driver Niki Lauda and British driver James Hunt.
Daniel Brühl is playing Lauda and Chris Hemworth is playing Hunt in the film. Olivia Wilde will also star as supermodel Suzy Miller, who was married to Hunt but fell in love with hi close friend Richard Burton. Eventually, Hunt and Burton came to an agreement and Burton paid the $1 million divorce settlement for Hunt when he let her go. Burton and Miller did eventually married. It’s been rumored Russell Crowe may play Burton in the film.
The movie is primarily being shot in the U.K., and though he doesn’t reveal exactly where they are filming, Ron Howard has been tweeting up-to-the-minute progress reports and photos from the set, a must follow for anyone interested in the filmmaking process.
