As we reported a few weeks ago, a new horror movie from New Line Cinemas, called Category Six, will be filmed in and around Detroit, Michigan this summer.
Steven Quale has signed on to direct the flick which will focus on found-footage from high schoolers’ phones as they tried to survive a Category 6 hurricane. Filming is expected to start in early July.
A casting call for Category 6 will be held Saturday, May 19, at ActorFest Detroit, a trade show for working and aspiring actors taking place at Raleigh Michigan Studios in Pontiac, MI which the movie will also use as its home base.
There will be three other casting calls held at ActorFest, but they are not necessarily for projects filming in Michigan. The fest will also include a full line-up of workshops, including one focusing on how to succeed in Hollywood with Kim Williams, a casting director for Tyler Perry.

It’s exciting to see something like this finally coming to Michigan this year. I will be there this Saturday helping out, and will probably get there early to audition. I want to be involved with this project any way I can, and would be happy to take up a crew position. Though, having a role in the movie would be nice too. Either way, I am just happy that this is coming, and there will be work here for us here in the film industry.
