Audio and photos from yesterday’s ‘Iron Man 3’ press conference at SDCC

Yesterday, Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheedle, director/writer Shane Black, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, held a press conference to discuss Iron Man 3 before the Hall H Panel at San Diego Comic-Com.

Of course, Iron Man’s suit is always a hot topic among fans of the franchise, but the controversy over the new gold Mach VIII suit that was revealed on the convention floor yesterday came as a surprise to Shane Black. “Actually, I found it really interesting today that there are fans that have anger that the suit was gold,” he said. “Of all the things in the world to get angry about.”

They also talked about the photos leaked from the Wilmington set that featured an actor in the Iron Patriot’s costume. “The not fun thing is that it was online and we don’t have a whole lot of control over that anymore,” Feige aid. “The fun thing is that the reason it was online is because it is a real practical suit. It was on the set and somebody took a picture of it. It’s an awesomely designed suit and a suit that Cheadle does get to wear at certain points in the movie.”

Shane Black also revealed that the main cast and crew will not be going to China for filming as was originally reported. “We’re setting aspects of the film in China but we won’t be filming in China,” he said. There will likely be a second unit filming in China, but don’t expect to see RDJ overseas anytime soon.

As the press conference came to an end, RDJ insisted that a young boy in the audience, who was there with his “Uncle Mark” from BigFanboy.com, ask the final question. “This better be a great question,” warned Black. “How does it feel to be a super hero in the movies,” the boy asked Downey. “This better be a great answer,” Black told Downey. “I think I speak for any of us that get to live in this world, there is just something about it where you just think wow, what a great opportunity,” Downy said. “It’s an odd thing but I take it as seriously as Shakespeare.”
