Meryl Streep & Julia Roberts will begin filming ‘August: Osage County’ in Oklahoma next month

Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts are headed to Oklahoma next month to begin filming August: Osage County.

According the Oklahoma Film & Music Office, the production will spend eight weeks filming in the Bartlesville and Pawhuska areas beginning Sept. 24.

The movie is based on Tulsa native Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play. “It starts shooting in late summer in a house they found in Pawhuska, OK, that is absolutely perfect,” Letts recently told reporters.

An important factor in the decision to shoot in Oklahoma was the fact that the film was prequalified for the state’s tax incentives after its application was received earlier this year.

Streep and Roberts will play mother and daughter in the film in which their family comes together in rural Osage County, OK when their patriarch goes missing. Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Juliette Lewis and Margo Martindale also star.

“It is a great honor to be filming in such a scenic and culturally expansive state,” said Dylan Sellers, president of production for the Weinstein Company, the movie’s production company. “‘August: Osage County’ would not be possible without the generous support from the people of Oklahoma.”
