One of our readers, Charlene, attended the premiere of The Carrie Diaries during last week’s New York Television Festival and was lucky enough to meet one of her favorite actors.
The New York Television Fest is a great place to meet celebs, as Charlene’s story exemplifies! Read more about her experience below!
I heard they were going to be screening the pilot of The Carrie Diaries and I got tickets, so my boyfriend took me. I didn’t know for a fact Austin [Butler] would be there as they didn’t say anything. They only listed AnnaSophia Robb but I wanted to see this and thought he would probably be there since he’s the male lead.
It wasn’t supposed to start til 7:30 p.m. but we got there 6:30. It didn’t take long for people to start arriving. Finally someone said that’s Austin Butler (someone who worked there) and opened the door for him. I jumped up but I was so shaky it’s unreal. I called to him, I’m like, “Austin”. He looked over to me and I asked, “Can I have a picture?” He said, “Sure.” I then fumbled for my iPod and I said to him, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t know if you were going to be here or not and I’m really excited that you are.” He then replied, “Well I’m excited your here too.” (Can you say aww?) So then I gave my bf the iPod and he took a picture. I said thank you to Austin and than I said, “It was nice meeting you” and hugged him. He said, “It’s nice meeting you too,” and then went to take pap photos and interview things.
When they were doing the pap stuff I walked over to look and I heard them yelling “Vanessa [Hudgens] look this way”, etc and I saw her. I thought she may be there to support Austin but didn’t know for sure. Somehow I lost her so we went in the theater and sat down then I had to go to the bathroom so I told my bf I would be right back and right as I leave the theater I see Vanessa and Austin walking in. Well, technically I saw Austin first cause he smiled and waved at me and said “Hi” and then I noticed Vanessa so I’m like, “Vanessa?” She said, “yeah.” I asked if I could have a picture and she said sure. Then Austin said, “I’ll take the pic.” So I said thank you and handed him my iPod. I told Vanessa she looked gorgeous and she said, “Aww thank you so much.” Austin took the pic and I said, “thank you, both of you so much”, and Austin said, “Have a good evening,” and I said, “you too”.
We saw the pilot of the show which is amazing, definitely recommend it. After there was a Q & A, with AnnaSophia and the writers. After that I walked up to AnnaSophia and asked if I could have a pic and she said she wasn’t sure if she was allowed to take pictures. She asked someone if she was allowed to take pics and they said “not now sorry.” So I told her she did a great job, I loved it and she thanked me. I never heard of someone having to ask if they could take a pic though, that’s odd. Then I went over to asked Stefania Owen for a pic. She was sweet as well.
After we went outside and waited asĀ they all walked out and finally Vanessa and Austin came out and I knew I couldn’t get his attention by calling his name, it was to loud, so I grabbed his arm (lightly) and he turned around. I said, “I’m so sorry for grabbing you” and he said, “no problem.” I said, “I just wanted to say you did a great job, I really loved it.” He touched my arm and said, “thank you very much.” They are such sweet people!
