‘The Americans’ delayed after flooding from Hurricane Sandy damaged their Brooklyn studio

According to The Wrap, the Brooklyn-based studio Eastern Effects was damaged so badly by flooding from Hurricane Sandy it has delayed the start of the upcoming FX series The Americans, which will be based at the stages.

Shooting on the series, starring Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys as KGB agents in the 1980s, was set to begin next Tuesday, but has been pushed back to Nov. 26 due to the damage.

Crew members became concerned about the studio’s safety because it is located near the Gowanus Canal, one of the country’s most contaminated bodies of water, and was flooded by more than 6 inches of water from the canal. But, early testing has determined Eastern Effects wasn’t exposed to raw sewage or other contaminants.

Laura Gahrahmat, a co-owner of Eastern Effects, confirmed flooding had taken place and has since been cleaned up. “In four days, we have taken every piece of wall that had been exposed to flooding and had it removed. We’ve done extensive cleanup per FX’s requirements,” she said.
