According to Iceland Review, “American film production company DreamWorks will shoot scenes in Reykjavík, Iceland for an upcoming film on Julian Assange and WikiLeaks.” The project is currently being shot under the title The Man Who Sold the World.
It is expected that filming will take place in and around the capital area in January. Later on the project will head to Berlin and Belgium for further filming.
The script was written by screenwriter Josh Singer, who stated that in order to make the movie more factual he has consulted with Birgitta Jónsdóttir, former WikiLeaks volunteer and MP for the Movement.
While actor Benedict Cumberbatch, of the BBC adaptation series Sherlock, is said to play Assange, there still hasn’t been anyone cast for other roles including Birgitta’s part.
The movie will be directed by Bill Condon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and 2).
We will keep you informed about possible release dates and other information as the project moves along.

I feel sorry for Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s not going to be good for his career being associated with what looks like it’s going to be a real turkey.
The problem is that Dreamworks spent mega-bucks buying the rights to two books that the majority of Wikileaks supporters – surely the main market for a film like this? – know were full of self-seeking distortions by people making money by riding on the back of Wikileaks’ success.
Daniel Domscheit-Berg’s book especially, which this film will be based on, is full of self-promoting – but easily spottable – lies. According to Der Spiegel, Domscheit-Berg is also heavily involved in the film’s production as a consultant.
This is the man who sabotaged the Wikileaks submission platform, stole money and unpublished whistleblower submissions from them, conducted endless interviews smearing Julian Assange, publicised where the passphrase to the unredacted cableset could be found (David Leigh, Guardian journalist’s book chapter title – the other book the film is based on) and, to cap it all, DESTROYED 3,500 unpublished document that whistleblowers had submitted to Wikileaks, risking all to get the truth out to the public.
Doubtless this is the man who this film will portray as the noble hero of information transparency, while Assange is portrayed as an narcisist and meglomaniac. The truth turned upsidedown.
