Julia Roberts and Mark Ruffalo have both signed on to star in the HBO movie “The Normal Heart” which is slated for a 2014 airdate.
According to a statement released by HBO on Friday, Julia Roberts will star as a paraplegic physician treating patients early in the AIDS epidemic in the stage-to-screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning drama “The Normal Heart.”
While Roberts will portray Dr. Emma Brookner, who treats several early patients infected with the HIV virus that causes AIDS, her co-star Mark Ruffalo will take on the role of Ned Weeks, an eyewitness to how the disease ravaged the city’s gay community.
“Glee” creator Ryan Murphy will direct the project which was adapted for the screen by the play’s original author, Larry Kramer.
