AMC’s ‘Low Winter Sun’ begins filming in Detroit next month

Production on the new AMC drama “Low Winter Sun” is set to begin this spring in Detroit.

AMC picked up the new series for a ten-episode first season, beginning with the pilot that was shot in Detroit last September. Series executives are also looking to hire local extras once the show begins production in March.

“Low Winter Sun” is based on a 2006 British miniseries and focuses on crime, deception, and corruption in the Detroit police department. The series will star Mark Strong (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “Green Lantern”) and AMC alum Lennie James (“The Walking Dead,” “The Prisoner”).

Though AMC hasn’t yet announced a premiere date for the show, it’s expected to begin this year.

Production begins in Detroit in March and will likely run through the summer, which is good new for the state’s struggling film industry.
