‘Frank’, starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, moves to Ireland

In December we told you that Frank, starring Michael Fassbender, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Domhnall Gleeson, was shooting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, well this past week the movie shot on location in Dublin and Wicklow, Ireland.

The feature film,  stars Fassbender as the title character Frank, a lead singer of an electro-pop band, the character is loosely based on the eccentric comedic character Frank Sidebottom, most well known for wearing a large paper-mache head.

Gleeson will be taking on the role of an aspiring musician while Frank’s sidekick Clara will be played by Maggie Gyllenhaal.

The script was written by Jon Ronson who wrote The Men Who Stare At Goats as well as Peter Straughan, who penned the Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy script.

Director Lenny Abrahamson explained how shooting was going and the challenges he faced on set, saying:

“We’re shooting a lot of complicated things, we don’t have a huge long schedule because we shot in two countries. We’re in the middle of woods and forests, in this weather, in Wicklow, battling snow and mud and all sorts of stuff. There’s a lot of music in the film and we’re filming all the music live. So there’s no playback, all the voices are real, all the instruments are being played in the room, so it’s an incredible challenge.”

Frank will be edited at Screen Scene in Dublin following its wrap on principal photography next month, and is expected to see a late 2013, early 2014 release.
