Last night the cast of Dexter made their last appearance at San Diego Comic-Com.
And, unlike in years past where the audience was hungry for spoilers and teasers, the audience, and the panelists, were more interested in reminiscing about the series that somehow kept us all rooting for a serial killer.
Current cast members Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Desmond Harrington, David Zayas, Aimee Garcia, and Yvonne Strahovski were joined on the Hall H stage by Lauren Velez (LaGuerta), Julie Benz (Rita), and Erik King (Doakes) (who were all killed off in previous seasons).
The panel kicked off with three short videos, the first was of the crew and some of the cast who couldn’t be there in person (C.S. Lee and James Remar) saying good-bye to the fans. The second was a taped message from John Lithgow who told the crowd, “I wish I could be with you today, but as you all know, I’m dead. Than you for being such fans. Not a day goes by when people don’t recognize me as a psychopath. I have to thank you for that.” And the last was a montage of Dexter’s greatest kills.
Here are a few of the other highlights:
“I want her to die. It’s because I love her”, Jennifer Carpenter said of Deb.
“I’m coming back, but I don’t know what her revenge, err, motivation will be”, Yvonne Strahovski revealed of Hannah’s role in season 8.
“When we meet Dexter, we believe what he’s telling us, but I always believed his voice over is not the bottom line in terms of what he believes or what is motivating him. I think we’re meant to be suspicious of his claim that he’s 100 percent psychopath,” Hall said of Dexter. Adding, “I’ve always been on Dexter’s side myself.”
The cast also shared some details about what mementos they took from the set after wrapping. MCH said he took Dexter’s watch, his Miami Metro lanyard, and a 9-foot portion of the railing from Dexter’s apartment building for his backyard. He also wanted the blood spatter images from Dexter’s office, but “they’d been swiped,” by the time he got to them. Carpenter did slightly better, admitting, “I took a lot. It was fun.” “I went in there with her and she bagged stuff,” Harrington agreed. “It was crazy.”
They also announced a DVD/Blu-Ray box set that will be packaged to look like Dexter’s trophy case and the discs will look like his blood slides!
