‘Dolphin Tale 2’ will be filmed in Florida this fall

Dolphin Tale 2 will film in Florida, primarily at Clearwater Marine Aquarium, in the fall, just as the first movie did. The film will star Harry Connick Jr., Ashley Judd, and Morgan Freeman.

This is great news for Floridians, Florida Gov. Rick Scott said, “Today’s announcement will create more economic activity and opportunities for families living in Pinellas County.  This exciting news builds on the economic momentum that Florida is currently experiencing.”

According to bizpacreview.com, the first Dolphin Tale brought $17 million in revenue to the state and provided jobs for nearly 1,300 Floridians working as crew members, actors and extras, Scott’s statement said. The local economy also benefited from equipment rentals, hotel accommodations, catering and other production expenses.

Scott’s office says, a study from the University of South Florida’s St. Petersburg College of Business estimated the films will have a $2 billion economic impact on the area over the next five years.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium saw attendance almost quadruple to about 750,000 after the first film was released.

Dolphin Tale 2 will be released in theaters September 19, 2014.

  1. Dearly loved the movie and the experience with my granddaughter at the aquarium. Nearly 6 years-old, she is still insisting she will be a dolphin trainer when she grows up. We can’t wait for the sequel. She resides in Indiana but we are just north of the Pinellas Co, FL line.
