‘Outlander’ series to film in Scotland; Sam Heughan to play lead

It’s been confirmed that the upcoming Starz series Outlander will start filming in Cumbernauld, Scotland on September 13, 2013, and could be shooting there for up to 38 weeks. Also, Scottish actor Sam Heughan has landed the lead role of Jamie Fraser.

Outlander is based on the series of books written by Diana Gabaldon. The story follows Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who somehow ends up in 1743. As Claire attempts to find a way home, she must try to stay alive in this unknown world. Along the way she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior. Eventually she falls for Jamie, and this tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
