According to sources it looks as if the cast of Game of Thrones will be headed to Northern Ireland for the filming of the fifth season.
The HBO production is expected to bring more than £20m to the local economy. It didn’t take long after the confirmation of two new seasons before the First and deputy First Ministers confirmed that season five would indeed be filmed in Northern Ireland.
In the past much of the series has been filmed on locations in areas such as Gosford Park in Armagh and along the Antrim coast. According to Peter Robinson Northern Ireland is continuing to establish itself as a prime tourist destination and investment location, he stated:
“Securing the fifth series of Game of Thrones, HBO’s largest drama production in Europe, will generate in excess of £20million annually to the Northern Ireland economy.”
Game of Thrones was first aired in 2009 and quickly became a global sensation, with more than 14 million viewers in the US alone.
