With a successful crowdfunding campaign under their belts, the SLC Punk sequel, Punk’s Dead, is gearing up to go into production.

Here’s the good news. To kick things off and celebrate the sequel, the production is putting on a big concert with Screeching Weasel on June 20 at The Complex that will also serve as the scene where the movie’s characters come back together.

Also good news, the movie will be shot entirely in Salt Lake City with returning cast Devon Sawa, Michael Goorjian, Adam Pascal and James Duval and new castmembers Ben Schnetzer as Heroine Bob’s son, Machine Gun Kelly, Hannah Marks and Sarah Clarke.

Now, here’s the bad news. Matthew Lillard is no longer attached to the project and Clarke is playing Trish, who Annabeth Gish portrayed in the first film.

Though it won’t quite be the same, especially without Lillard, the premise – what happens to punks who grow old and have to deal with a new generation of rebellious youth – still sounds like it has plenty of potential.

Tickets for the June 20 concert can be purchased at thecomplexslc.com.
