Today, the highly anticipated film Me & Earl & the Dying Girl begins filming in Pittsburgh, PA.

The movie is based on the best-selling book about “a quirky high school student in Pittsburgh who is forced by his mother to befriend a sick girl he once knew when they attended Hebrew school together. Well-liked by every clique in school without actually belonging to any of them, the young man’s commitment to the new friendship changes his life.”

But, don’t expect this to be another sicky-sweet teen love story as an excerpt from the YA novel explains:

“This book contains precisely zero important Life Lessons, or Little -Known Facts About Love, or sappy tear-jerking Moments When We Knew We Had Left Our Childhood Behind for Good or whatever. And, unlike most books in which a girl gets cancer, there are definitely no sugary paradoxical single-sentence paragraphs that you’re supposed to think are deep because they’re in italics.”

Today, the movie begins filming in the Pittsburgh area with a scene focused on Furries.

Next week the movie is filming high school scenes all week in Pittsburgh, according to a recent casting call. Mosser Casting is handling all local extra for the film, you can find out more at mossercasting.com.

Most of Me & Earl & the Dying Girl is expected to shoot in “residential East End neighborhoods.”

Thomas Mann (Project X), Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel) and Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) star.
