Like hundreds of other fans, I used one of my own tips from OLV’s NYC Field Guide to meet a celebrity recently!
Though I recommend attending the annual BookExpo (which this year also included BookCon) I’ve never actually attended myself, so I decided to check it out.
In addition to my Bookexpo ticket I also purchased tickets for Saturday’s Author Breakfast with Alan Cumming, Martin Short, Colm Toibin, and Lena Dunham, just as I recommend to others in the Guide.
It was worth the extra $20 (I only got a ticket for a seat, not the full meal) because I didn’t have to get in line 2-3 hours early like I did for the included panels, and the low key crowd of mostly publishing professionals seemed to make the celebs more willing to stick around after for photos and autographs.
This is how I got to meet Lena. She and Martin Short hung out for quite awhile to sign autographs from the stage. Lena was very sweet and seemed genuinely thankful to everyone for attending.
Plus, as a bonus, everyone received an advanced copy of Alan and Colm’s upcoming books. Lena also shared an excerpt from her book for the first time.
