Recently, Kurt Sutter has been scouting locations for his upcoming FX series, The Bastard Executioner, and they couldn’t be more different from the locations used on his last project, Sons of Anarchy.
The showrunner shared photos from the scouting trip, which primarily took place in rural Wales, a far cry from the urban southern California locations he used on SOA. Caerphilly Castle in southern Wales is among the locations Sutter has visited for The Bastard Executioner. Joining him on the trip was director Paris Barclay, who directed several episodes of Sons of Anarchy throughout the show’s seven seasons.
The Bastard Executioner follows a knight who leaves King Edward III’s army after witnessing the devastation of war but, when he’s confronted with violence again, he is forced to become an executioner.
There are few details about the cast, though Sutter has confirmed his wife, and SOA star, Katey Sagal will have a role in the show.
FX president John Landgraf has described the show as, “Just like Sons of Anarchy, it’s got a very strong Shakespearean journey in the center of it.”
We can’t wait to see more for Sutter as filming gets underway. Are you excited about The Bastard Executioner?
