Despite the initial rumors a few years back that Pirates of the Caribbean 5 would be shot in Louisiana, the movie is finally going into production, on the opposite side of the world.
Queensland, Australia won the honor of playing the Caribbean islands in the movie after offering the production an incentives deal they just couldn’t turn down.
Johnny Depp will be back as Captain Jack Sparrow for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, along with Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush and newcomers Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario. Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg will direct the script, written by Jeff Nathanson, that will reportedly follow Will Turner and his son.
According to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, filming begins on Dead Man Tell No Tales next week in Australia. There are also rumors the movie will spend some time filming in Mexico before it wraps.
