Los Angeles: ‘Cloud of Sils Maria’ screening with Kristen Stewart scheduled for April 3

Clouds of Sils Maria

Kristen Stewart is set to attend a special screening of her movie Cloud of Sils Maria at the LACMA, Bing Theater in Los Angeles on April 3.

The event will include a Q & A with Stewart about the film which follows Maria Enders (played by Juliette Binoche) who is asked to perform in a revival of the play that made her famous twenty years ago. But back then she played the role of Sigrid, an alluring young girl who disarms and eventually drives her boss Helena to suicide. Now, she is being asked to step into the other role, that of the older Helena. She departs with her assistant (Kristen Stewart) to rehearse in Sils Maria, a remote region of the Alps. A young Hollywood starlet with a penchant for scandal (Chloƫ Grace Moretz) is to take on the role of Sigrid, and Maria finds herself on the other side of the mirror, face to face with an ambiguously charming woman who is, in essence, an unsettling reflection of herself.

The event is open only to Film Independent, LACMA Film Club, and The New York Times Film Club members. Though advance tickets are sold out, a limited number of tickets will be available at the door two hours before the event’s 7:30 PM start time.

  1. It seems as though it is taking forever for this movie to hit theaters on a regular basis. If it had, no “screening” would be necessary. It has even received awards and nominations. Maybe I misunderstand . . . Interestingly (to moi), Kristen Stewart’s performance has been lauded I believe, yet it has also been noted that she displays limited emotional range. It doesn’t seem as though the two go together. Although it is fashionable for many reviewers to describe Kristen as the second coming as an actress of late, it seems as though she remains a pretty but mediocre actress who is popular and famous, and even considered an “A-lister” in some circles, through the luck of having landed the “Twilight” franchise. I hope she is able to overcome this as she learns her craft, but have my doubts whether she can.

    • dear setha2z: Clouds of Sils Maria is scheduled to be released in April and advanced screenings are often done for independent films prior to their release. I’ve seen the movie three times at film festivals and advanced screenings and plan on seeing it again in April. Kristen was awarded the French Cesar which is the equivalent of the Oscar…she is the first American actress EVER to be given such an honor. Luck? Kristen has been making movies since she was 9 years old…luck has nothing to do with it. She can act or no one in Hollywood would give her roles in their films and waste money. How sad you choose to believe the haters and make judgmental comments about her. This tells me you’ve never seen her in anything but Twilight. I recommend you watch Camp X-ray, Still Alice, Speak, Welcome to the Rileys, The Cake Eaters, The Yellow Handkerchief, On the Road, Panic Room, The Runaways and see for yourself that she is very talented.

      • I think its unfair to tear apart a woman’s attributes when they have already proved the test of time since she began at 9 and is now 24. She hasn’t even begun to hit her stride as an actress. I particularly liked what she said about Twilight. That was a first movie of it’s kind. There are no others like it out there, and everyone involved voiced how difficult it was to meet all the criteria. They did a heck of a job considering the fan base. All these critic can pan it but no one out there has produced, directed and starred in anything quite like it. It was and is a phenomenon. She’s proud of her work and I say they should all be proud of their work. They did 5 movies that all did well! You can’t really argue with success but you will always have egotistical, self-absorbed people who will try and tear it down. Mostly have never and will never come close to achieving that kind of success. I wonder how the directors of the Twilight movies feel about being criticized by other directors with regard to the movie. That doesn’t normally happen. One directed won’t dog another. It’s professional courtesy I guess, but when you attach that huge franchise you’re attacking a lot of pretty great at their job directors etc.. Kristen said every role calls for something special. If they want you for the role, no matter what it is, you put your heart and soul into your performance to give those people what they want. It’s your job. If the fans like it than you’ve done your job (3.3 billion is what Twilight made and the fan base speaks for itself) There are so many parts out there and they all resonate to diverse audiences. You don’t have to particularly like something but you can usually find some redeeming quality in it. The comments surrounding the Twilight stars has been brutal. They’re called “underrated”, and many have not even seen the movie. Now I ask you….if you’re going to publicly criticize a movie don’t you think you should have seen it first? Cronenberg is my example, yet he hitched onto Pattinson’s star value for his fan base and probably financing. Kristen has been so fortunate to work with really good people. If she was, as you try to make her out to be, they wouldn’t be putting money behind her, she wouldn’t have one the Cesar’ Award, and received the accolades she’s received. In trying to take that away from someone with hatred and visceral comments you say more about yourself than you do Kristen Stewart.

      • You said it better than I could have I have every movie she has been in and I think that she is a very good actress, along with Julia Roberts, which is another one of my favorite actress. I also have all her movies to.

    • Ignorance breeds fear. Fear breeds hate. Hate breeds violence. Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace

    • I laugh when I read about Kristen’s Bella being “wooden and awkward”…that was the role she was playing!!! An insecure, shy, awkward teenager!!! We all know that books are generally better than their movie counterpart because of the depth the written word has, so I forgive those uninformed narrow-minded souls that love to hate.

  2. How amazing it would be to be at that screening! Fantastic movie; Kristen and Juliette make a captivating couple- I loved it.
Kristen plays her character extremely well and with a subtly that it’s apparent some critics fail to recognize. Instead they regurgitate the same outdated criticisms as have been poked at Kristen for her Twilight role. I for one can see that she takes the nature of her characters upon herself in deeper ways than typically exaggerated facial expressions. A great actor presents their character in many more mannerisms and ways than this.

  3. Kristen , you are beautiful, young, good on every
role , I know great things are waiting for you.
As long as I am alive , I will follow your career.
If you are ever in Orlando Florida I will love to show
you around , or anything you would like to do for
fun. You are a extraordinary woman.
BEST OF LUCK , HEALTH AND WEALTH.

  4. Gladys I totally agree with everything you say. I am a huge fan of Kirsten and I think she is fantastic. I also will follow her career till I leave this earth

  5. Kristen is a very lovely young woman and she has yet to be in the movie she waiting for. I can wait for it to happen for her. And yes I will follow her to the end not matter what she do are what people say about her. I’ve been following her since she was in the Flintstones Viva Rock Vegas as the ring toss girl and then you have Panic Room Speak and Into the Wild and so many more but my all time favorites are Catch that Kid, Panic Room, Speak, Messenger and Welcome to the Riley s. Best Wishes and Best of Luck to her on her Adventures of the future, I will be following her.

  6. I love the twilight movies! So do so many people!!! Stop with the hate for these movies. And I am not a teenager. I’m married with children, am a teacher, and a movie goer. Kristen is an excellent actress and so is Robert Pattinson. I wonder why envy grasps so many people?
