Jeffrey Dean Morgan isn’t just a diversified actor, he’s also a small business owner.
Samuel’s Sweet Shop was first opened in 1994 by Ira Gutner, who left a lucrative career in New York City to move to the small town of Rhinebeck, NY. After Ira passed away unexpectedly, JDM and fellow Hudson Valley resident Paul Rudd decided to save the beloved local candy store.
“When I moved to this little town of Rhinebeck, we met this guy named Ira,” Jeffrey explained to Jimmy Kimmel. “He owned this little candy store that had been there for 25 years. And last year he suddenly and tragically passed away. We were at dinner one night and and decided we gotta save this and not let them turn it into a Burger King.”
Since taking over the business, JDM ad his wife, One Tree Hill’s Hilarie Burton, have been hands on, helping to grow the business, which made the best of Hudson Valley list for 2015. (Check out Hilarie’s video that announced the win on Facebook).
Want to stop in and say hi? Samuel’s Sweet Shop is located at 42 E Market St, Rhinebeck, NY, about 2 hours north of NYC.
In addition to candy, Samuel’s sells pies, sandwiches, baked goods, and specialty coffees. Can’t make it it Rhinebeck? You can buy their sweets online, too.
What a great find. Thanks for sharing! I guess a road trip is in order.
