Today, THR confirmed the rumors – Supergirl is moving its production from Los Angeles to Vancouver for season 2. But, that’s not the only change the show will experience in its sophomore year. Supergirl will also be moving from CBS to The CW.
Sources say CBS decided the show’s cost – it was ranked as the network’s most expensive first-year show – didn’t justify a second season. The CW is a logical move for the series, as it finished its first season with an average of 10 million total viewers, that’s a hit by The CW’s standards. And, it will join The CW’s other DC shows – Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow – which also all film in Vancouver.
“Season two is going to be more reflective of their past and how they’re going to change their future as a result of it in a really emotional way,” producer Ali Adler said. “We definitely want to continue making more of this show.”
THR also confirmed the Supergirl co-star Calista Flockhart has agreed to remain on the series with its move to Vancouver, despite being “adamant about working in L.A.”
Season 2 will begin shooting in Vancouver in July. In the meantime, The CW is expected to address the move at next week’s Upfront presentations.
