Selena Gomez loved Jay Asher’s YA novel, 13 Reasons Why, so much she decided she had to bring it to the small screen. Now, thanks in part to Gomez, the book is being made into a 13-part series for Netflix that begins filming in Northern California in June.
Gomez is producing the series, along with director Tom McCarthy, Brian Yorkey, Joy Gorman, Michael Sugar, Steve Golin, Mandy Teefey and Kristel Laiblin. The story follows, “a boy named Clay through an emotional night when he receives a shoe box of cassette tapes from his late classmate and crush Hannah, after she recently committed suicide. On the tapes, which are mailed with instructions to pass along from one student to another, Hannah explains to 12 peers how they each played a role in her death, by giving 13 reasons explaining why she took her life.”
With filming about to begin, 13 Reasons Why is looking for extras.
Casting calls are being held on May 21 at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 282 S. High St., Sebastopol, CA from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and on May 28 at 1175 Railroad Ave., building 1310 in Vallejo, CA from 11 a.m-3 p.m.
