After spending the last several weeks filing in Seoul, South Korea, production on the Netflix original movie Okja has moved to New York City, where filming will continue through July 25.
The movie stars Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Lily Collins and Steven Yeun (yes, the fact that he has been working on this film doesn’t bode well for his character Glenn on The Walking Dead).
Okja was written by director Joon-ho Bong and Jon Ronson and follows Mija, a young girl who must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named ‘Okja’. Mija will be played by Seohyun An.
A 2017 premiere date is set for the movie which will premiere globally on Netflix and will also have a limited day and date theatrical release in the US.
According to film permits, Okja is filming on Pine St and at William St and Wall St in NYC from Saturday, July 16 – Monday, July 18.
