Central Park is one of the most iconic movie locations, being used countless times thanks to its size and variety of possibilities.
One of those locations is the Gapstow Bridge, on the east side of the park, around 62nd Street. According to the Central Park Conservancy, it is “the second bridge on the site. The first, a much more elaborate wood and iron bridge, designed by Jacob Wrey Mould, deteriorated and was replaced in 1896.”
The bridge and its surroundings provide a breathtaking view of the park and it really does feel like you are in a movie.
You might recognize that bridge from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. This is where Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) meets the “Pigeon Lady” (Brenda Fricker). It is also where the “Urban Jungle” photoshoot takes place in The Devil Wears Prada. Others might recognize it from Enchanted, since it’s in the background as Giselle (Amy Adams) is doing her big musical number in the park.
The bridge is also featured in TV shows, such as Gossip Girl (episode “Remains of the J”) and Sex and the City (episode “Let There Be Light”).
Other movies that have used Gapstow Bridge include Cruel Intentions, Sweet Charity, The Smurfs, Weekend at Bernie’s, and Anger Management.
